As we finish the third week of school, I have been reflecting on the start of the year. We have great opportunities for our students … more opportunities than most schools of our size. We are fortunate enough to have many community partnerships to give our students great opportunities and we were recently STEM certified. We have students shadowing professionals at hospitals, veterinarian offices, pharmacies, and other medical office settings. We have students on many different types of job sites with our Work Based Learning class. Our Building Trades program is building a house. We have students interviewing for positions with local NAPA garages. Our Fine Arts Academy offers plays, musicals, marching band, jazz band, and art shows. We have extracurricular robotics, eSports, and Academic teams for students to join. We offer 21 varsity sports in which students can choose to participate. We will continue to create more pathways and opportunities for our students. We encourage all students to get involved and to try new things. We look forward to seeing parents as they come to watch and support their students. It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!

A school is more than just a physical space for learning; it's a community that shapes the lives of students and families. Marrs Elementary takes pride in its tight-knit community, where students, parents, teachers, and staff come together to create a supportive and nurturing environment. Regular events, volunteer opportunities, and parent-teacher interactions foster open communication and collaboration, ensuring that every stakeholder plays a role in the growth of the students. We encourage you to join your child's classroom communication platform if you haven't already; google classroom, Bloomz, Class Tag, and Class Dojo are some of the platforms our teachers use. Joining our Facebook page will give you a peek inside our school with snapshots of classroom happenings, communication about different events, and regular reminders. Last but not least, we encourage you to get involved. If you are interested in getting involved with our PTO, our next meeting is on August 23rd at Hawg N Sauce- 6:00 PM all are welcome! We look forward to a wonderful year!
Best,
Katie Bushard

The first few weeks of school every year are filled with excitement, anxiety and challenges. So as we embark on another year at Mt. Vernon Junior High I want to encourage us all to commit to being better. I want us to commit to a Growth Mindset.
A growth mindset is not just a theory; it's a philosophy that transforms the way we approach challenges, setbacks, and opportunities. It's about understanding that our abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and perseverance. Instead of shying away from difficulties, those with a growth mindset embrace them, knowing that the path to success is paved with trials, errors and failure.
The saying “Can’t ain’t never done nothin” encapsulates a profound truth: a lack of action or effort yields no results. When we look at a challenge and say “I can’t do that” we rob ourselves of an opportunity to grow, learn and achieve. Growth does not come from idle hands, but from stepping out of our comfort zone and getting comfortable being uncomfortable. Our abilities are not fixed, our abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. The first step is always trying and never saying I can’t.
As the MVJHS family, let’s commit ourselves to a growth mindset, let’s strive to be a community that faces challenges with enthusiasm, views setbacks as opportunities for growth and transforms our lives through relentless effort. The next time you’re confronted with doubt or challenges, remember that a growth mindset coupled with action can lead to extraordinary accomplishments. We know this because Can’t ain’t never done Nothin.
